Son, 34, of Ron and Shelly Hamilton dies

GREENVILLE, SC -- The son of Ron and Shelly Hamilton, of "Patch-the-Pirate" fame, has been found dead at the age of 34.  The circumstances of his death are still under investigation.

Jonathan Campbell Hamilton, 34, of Greenville was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m. Sunday, by the Greenville  County Coroner.  His body had been found at the Richardson Street Parking Garage in Greenville Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Coroner Barry Wright says Hamilton died of blunt force trauma to the head. An autopsy is underway Monday morning.

The deputy coroner says investigators have reason to believe Hamilton jumped.   More details will be known after the investigation has been completed.

The Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Coroner's Office are conducting a death investigation after Hamilton's body was found on Richardson Street.  Corporal Jason Rampey of the Greenville Police Department said that the body was found lying in the street outside the Richardson Street Parking Garage.

Currently they are investigating whether he fell from the garage and are reviewing surveillance video from the garage to determine the circumstances of his death.

The Hamilton's said in a statement. "Our family is grieving the loss of our eldest and beloved son Jonathan.  He passed away on Mother's Day evening.  We are thankful that he is now with our Savior.  He will be greatly missed.  We are hurting but also rejoicing in the Lord that Jonathan is safe in the arms of Jesus. Philippians 4:4"

I am so very, very sorry to hear of your devastating loss. I have experienced a very similar loss two years ago, my sister at 50 years old, took her own life on Saturday the day before Mother's Day. She was a born-again believer and I am still stunned that this happened.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the Hamilton family. Our church uses the "Patch" & "Pee Wee" club(s) format (for the kids) on Sunday evenings, & my kids have a few Patch the Pirate CDs. May the Lord comfort Ron & Shellie during this time.

Our children grew up listening to the Patch the Pirate songs and stories. Our lives have been blessed many times over because of them. May God use those same songs to uplift and give grace to this dear family.
